FSMTC and ABS renew partnership over Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)
1 December 2021, Singapore – ABS, a leading satellite operator, has signed a renewal with FSM Telecommunications Corporation (FSMTC) to continue expansion of the existing networks and to connect additional FSM Chuuk outer islands to the internet.
ABS has been working with FSMTC since 2015 providing internet connectivity via ABS-6 supporting commercial and government entities, as well as serving educational institutions and communities. Earlier this year in August 2021, ABS provided a link between the islands of Yap and Kosrae to serve as an upgrade to Kosrae’s increasing need for data bandwidth.
In October 2021, ABS confirmed a new agreement with FSMTC to provide, people in the outer islands with further levels of broadband connectivity. E-learning, e-commerce and entertainment delivered via the internet have become essential to improving the quality of life for the people living in FSM and the outer islands. As part of the upgrade, there will be three new links to connect the outer islands of Losap, Nomwin, and Pulap.
